David Troostwyk Bursary Award winner 2015: Lucia Quevedo

SPACE welcomes Lucia Quevedo, recipient of the David Troostwyk bursary award, run annually in partnership with Matt’s Gallery and the RCA, and hosted at SPACE’s Martello Street studio block.

Each year a bursary holder will receive a rent free studio in a refurbished wing of Martello Street Studios, part of which which formerly housed Robin Klassnik’s studio and later Matts Gallery. David Troostwyk was the first artist to show in Matts Gallery.

SPACE has occupied Martello Street as studios since 1971 and with the help of an Arts Council capital grant has recently refurbished the rear section of the building with a new roof and new glazing to improve its sustainability and energy performance, as well and creating space for 10 more studios.

The David Troostwyk bursary award is funded by the late artists estate, the trustees of which are Robin Klassnik, and Barbara and Olivia Cavanagh.

The award extends SPACE’s professional development offer to artists, which currently includes bursaries, residencies, exhibition support, media training and the New Creative Markets programme which is helping artists access new markets for their work.
