SPACE is proud to once again be hosting this three-month residency aimed at the alumni of the Academy of Fine Arts, supporting post-graduate studies of visual artists in high-quality residences abroad in periods ranging from 3 to 12 months. The programme partners are SPACE in London, ISCP – International Studio & Curatorial Program in New York, Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, LIFT – Liaison of Independent Filmmakers in Toronto and Cove Park and Scottish Sculpture Workshop in Scotland.

Emerging artists of any age who are MFA or DFA alumni of the Academy of Fine Arts are invited to apply for the residency grant at SPACE. The three-month residency will take place in between 14  September and 13 December 2023.

SPACE is a leading visual arts organisation providing creative workspace, advocacy, support and promoting innovation. Established by artists in 1968, SPACE runs 21 artist studio buildings across 8 London boroughs and Colchester, providing affordable creative workspace plus support programmes, such as exhibitions, artists residencies, bursaries and training opportunities, to enable artists to be sustainable. SPACE supports 850 artists with studios and further supports artists through commissions, exhibitions, awards and training opportunities.

The residency is conceived as a period of development, immersion and critical investigation. Practitioners will be selected in recognition of their proposal’s compatibility with the critical and experimental nature of the three-month residency structure, where the focus is on process over product. This residency is for visual artists who engage with a digital practice and are excited about the prospect of three months in London to further this within a supported peer group.

The Residency Grant at SPACE is supported by The Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki in partnership with Saastamoinen Foundation.
