Rendezvous Projects CIC presents work in progress in this exciting new exhibition-in-the-making at SPACE Mare Street. Lightboxes and Lettering: More Follows explores the history of the printing industry in east London in the 20th century in the pre-digital era. Rendezvous Projects is in the process of collecting images, memories and printed materials and recording the experiences of people who worked in the industry in Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and some surrounding areas. The general public are invited to come and witness the histories gathered so far, as well as sharing their own images, stories or printed matter with the Rendezvous team. A series of workshops will also take place during the exhibition, including with Hooksmith Press and Screengrab.
On Saturday 8 December Rendezvous Projects CIC is inviting past and present workers in the industry to share stories and bring any images or printed matter to contribute to the project. Please RSVP firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to join us.
The project will culminate in early 2020 with a final exhibition in Bow and a publication including material and reminiscences from some of the many varied businesses in the area.
Rendezvous Projects are a community interest company run by 5 artists and writers: Rosa Ainley, Iain Aitch, Katherine Green, Lucy Harrison, and Michael Needham. This National Lottery funded project is being run by Lucy Harrison and Rosa Ainley, along with a team of volunteers who are helping research and record oral history interviews.
