Mammoth loop: a stitch in time

July – Sept 2021
Free
SPACE Ilford

Artist Cecilia Charlton will be hosting a series of textile-themed workshops during July and August 2021, culminating in an October gallery exhibition at SPACE Ilford.

Participants will learn and experiment with a range of techniques such as bargello needlepoint, crewel embroidery, cross-stitch embroidery, and dyeing methods. Themes will relate to the local area of Ilford and will include Roman and Iron age artefacts and the pre-historic mammoth skull that was discovered in 1864.

The concept behind the workshops is to encourage sharing and togetherness through textiles. Ultimately the works created will be united into large-scale quilted artworks as a physical manifestation of the social connections made during the time sewing.
