Open call: Schools Exhibition 2024

Deadline to register interest 5 Jan 2024
SPACE Ilford

CALLING ALL REDBRIDGE ART TEACHERS: Display your students’ creative artwork in SPACE Ilford Gallery, and be part of our schools exhibition launching in May 2024.

Please register your interest in being part of this project by 5 January 2024.

SPACE Ilford is working with the artist Kenneth Lam presenting his first solo photography exhibition A seat at our table, in March 2024. The exhibition invites audiences to explore the dishes, meals and memories of our own cultural identities. Kenneth creates a contemporary take on classical still life, and the photographs explore heritage, diaspora and food as a common language between our neighbours in Redbridge.

SPACE is looking for students to respond to Kenneth Lam’s exhibition with their own original portrait. The artwork will be exhibited in our adjacent gallery alongside Kenneth Lam’s exhibition.

We are looking for artwork from students aged 7 – 18 yrs.

Students will need to produce an original portrait (this can be a self-portrait or depiction of another person, e.g. someone they admire, a family member, friend, public figure, fictional character). The portrait can be created using any 2D medium, e.g. drawing, photography, collage, pencil, charcoal, ink, watercolours, and oil paints etc.

SIZE of the artwork

All portraits must be standard A3 size (29.7 cm x 42 cm).

SPACE will be framing all the artwork and it will require the image to have the artwork bleed all the way to the edge of the page so that it can be mounted within the frame correctly.

We will require the teachers / students to take inspiration and create their artwork in the style of any of the artists listed below:

Kenneth Lam

Lynette Yiadom-Boakye

Kehinde Wiley

Jenny Saville

Elizabeth Peyton
