Discover Ilford through the lenses of a new generation of street photographers in this captivating exhibition created by Redbridge residents. Led by photographer and visual artist Mister Geez (Gerald Marie-Nelly), participants embarked on a series of intensive workshops between May and July 2024, walking the streets of Ilford to capture its unique atmosphere and stories.
The workshops weren’t just about mastering camera skills; they were also an exploration of the essence of street photography and the art of visual storytelling. Over seven weeks, participants studied techniques, composition, and editing – all with the spontaneity of Ilford disposable cameras, capturing moments with a limited number of exposures. The experience honoured Ilford’s legacy in film photography, grounding participants in a tradition that shaped the field.
As you walk through this exhibition, you’ll see Ilford through their eyes – a place where every street holds a story waiting to be told. Each image offers a glimpse into the character of this vibrant community, showcasing the powerful impact of street photography to reveal the beauty of everyday life.
