NCM Participant Profile Mar 15: Annie Krinsky
Anne Krinsky is a London-based painter and printmaker who also creates installations in response to archived collections. Her current project, Anne Krinsky: From Absorb to Zoom / An Alphabet of Actions in the Women’s Art Library is a site-specific digital print installation, with content derived from materials in the Women’s Art Library at Goldsmiths University of London. Funded by Arts Council England, it is on view at Goldsmiths from 2nd - 30th March.
The Women’s Art Library started in the late 1970's as an artist-led initiative to enhance public knowledge of the practice, impact and achievement of women in the visual arts. Krinsky’s installation takes inspiration from archived slides, artists’ books, magazines, monographs and posters. As part of the project, she has invited selected artists with documentation in the Women’s Art Library to send her images of recent work to post in The Virtual Archive on the project blog:
What impact has New Creative Markets had on you?
I joined NCM in October, 2014. I moved to London from the US in 2012 and it’s been great to get to know other artists and designers on the scheme. The project has helped me boost my networking and social media skills and carry out a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund the final portion of my project with the Women’s Art Library.
Which aspects of the programme do you see yourself implementing?
For my next funded project, I plan to make use of Susan Mumford’s excellent advice on developing private sponsors to supplement public funding. I am now about halfway through the NCM scheme and am looking forward to focusing my remaining time on finding new exhibition venues for my paintings and prints - in London, New York and elsewhere. I will draw on advice from NCM facilitators and gallerists on finding the right dealers and venues.
What is the most useful thing you have learnt on the programme?
Many of the seminars have stressed networking, developing and maintaining relationships to build an audience for your work. I had a chance to observe the value of my relationships; whether of clients, friends and artists with whom I have a long history or of new contacts I have made through the NCM programme in the support and encouragement I received in my recent crowd funding campaign.
Thanks to Annie for taking part in this Participant Profile.
