Edmond Brooks-Beckman: Valerie Beston Award 2023
SPACE is delighted to announce the winner of the Valerie Beston Artists’ Trust Award 2023 is Edmond Brooks-Beckman.
Edmond Brooks-Beckman (b . London 1987) lives and works in London. He studied Fine Art Painting BA at Brighton University 2006 – 2009 and completed his MA in Painting at The Royal College of Art in 2023.
Edmond says of his award: “The prize has been such a amazing thing to receive! This opportunity has given me a chance to create a new body of work that is not within my main practice. I will be producing a series of watercolor paintings that bring together a range of ideas based on my Jewish identity and family relationships. I will be drawing from Jewish mythology, traditions, architectural floor plans of the Temple Mount or Al-Aqsa Mosque and a developing conversation with the materiality of watercolour.”
The Valerie Beston Artists’ Trust was established in 2006 after the death of Valerie Beston, a former director of Marlborough Fine Art. The charity supports artists at the beginning of their careers and partners with the Royal College of Art to award an annual prize to a postgraduate student selected from the degree show, which includes a studio at SPACE for 12 months and a solo show at Marlborough Fine Art.
