SPACE Artist Awardee: Alaa Alsaraji

Alaa Alsaraji is a recipient of a SPACE Artist Award 2021. She received £5,000, plus 1-2-1 mentoring and professional development support, as well as being made Programme Associate for SPACE’s exhibition and community engagement programme. Alaa also benefitted from a one-month residency in The Studio at SPACE Ilford. Alaa says: “Receiving the award and the money attached to it allowed me to explore completely new things. I bought a rug making kit and I started tufting and it’s such a different process. It’s so nice to be off screens and see things being created right in front of you.”
