Renee Carmichael's work explores technologies, not as new phenomenon, but as a means to expose the larger cultural structures that already inherently exist within the technologies. Experimenting with self-referential forms that play off the content that fills them, her work often takes the form of writing and publishing. For the Permacultures Residency, she will use the story of The Dance Epidemic of 1518 as a starting point to connect the ideas of Technostress/Technophobia with the notions of ritual and trance in order to explore and question what happens when the limits of computation are transcended and emotional thresholds are reached, when mind/body cannot compute
