Studio Gil, Ilford Science Museum (The Future Frontier)

Jul 2025 – Mar 2026

In this universe, Ilford has become a gleaming hub of futuristic innovation, a gravity-defying Science Museum that hovers above the high street like a spacecraft mid-launch. Transparent walkways lead visitors through anti-gravity chambers, kinetic sculpture labs, an AI-assisted discovery zones where thought-controlled drones perform aerial ballets.

Time doesn’t work in quite the same way here. Lab coats are replaced by reactive cloaks that display your thoughts as shimmering digital patterns. Children design experiments using mind-mapping tablets that shift and shimmer like the interface in Minority Report.

At the heart of the museum lies a pulsating orb of light and knowledge where community dreams are uploaded and transformed into working inventions. This isn’t just science as study – it’s science as magic, shaped by the community’s imagination.

This isn’t a museum in the traditional sense. It’s a place where science and imagination fuse. Where learning feels like levitating. Where experiments feel like spells. And where Ilford’s future is not predicted, it is created.

For this universe we have taken inspiration from the beautiful architectural digital collage work of Olalekan Jeyifous, and the fantastic architectural drawings of Jan Kaplicky.

Ilford Science Museum is one of the worlds imagined by Studio Gil as part of their billboard commission, The Ilford multiverse.
