Get involved in our next exhibition: exploring lived spaces through technology

Sat 21, 28 June, 5, 12, 19, 26 July 2025, 11am – 2.30pm
Free and open to ages 18+
SPACE Ilford

This six week project with artist Tadhg Charles examines how emerging technology can help us share personal experiences and foster community connections. Through these six interactive workshops, participants will explore storytelling, image-making, video, 3D scanning, and digital modelling culminating in an exhibition showcasing their work in January 2026.

Today, technology connects us more than ever but it can also isolate us and blur the truth of what we see. This project explores whether emerging technology can help share our lived experiences and spark genuine dialogue. By exchanging personal stories, it aims to bridge divides and examine how sharing can foster resilience.

This six week course is free and open to anyone aged 18+. No prior experience needed. Places are limited, so please ensure you are able to commit to all six workshops before signing up (see dates and times below).

Course outline

Sat 21 June 2025, 11am – 2.30pm
Workshop 1: Telling stories

Writing personal experiences of Ilford/Redbridge to uncover shared connections and build a collective narrative.

Participants will write a short piece describing their experiences of Ilford. As a group, we’ll identify common themes and connections, creating a shared linguistic framework. These stories will be showcased in the final exhibition through text and audio recordings.

Sat 28 June 2025, 11am – 2.30pm
Workshop 2: Reimagining images

Transforming drawings, photos, and visuals with digital tools to explore new ways of seeing and storytelling.

Participants will bring images—drawings, photos, or any medium—that represent the Borough. Using digital and generative tools, they’ll edit and transform these images, exploring how visuals shape personal narratives.

Sat 5 July 2025, 11am – 2.30pm
Workshop 3: Capturing moments on film

Creating short videos of meaningful neighbourhood moments and enhancing them with AI and editing tools.

Participants will film a short 20-30 second video capturing an important moment in their neighbourhood. Using AI and editing tools, they’ll enhance their footage to align with the themes explored in earlier workshops.

Sat 12 July 2025, 11am – 2.30pm
Workshop 4: Bringing objects to life

Using photogrammetry to turn everyday objects into 3D digital models, preserving personal connections to place.

Using photogrammetry, participants will turn real-world objects into 3D digital models. Each person will choose an item that represents their connection to the neighborhood—a favorite snack, a park bench, or a personal keepsake—and write a short description.

Sat 19 July 2025, 11am – 2.30pm
Workshop 5: From digital to physical

Experimenting with 3D modelling and printing to transform digital creations into tangible objects.

Building on the scanned objects and generated images, participants will explore creative digital modelling. They’ll be shown Blender (a free 3D design tool) and prepare files for printing with CURA. This hands-on session will encourage experimentation.

Sat 26 July 2025, 11am – 2.30pm
Workshop 6: Shaping the story

Reflecting on the journey, refining work, and curating the final exhibition to share with the community.

In this final session, participants will review their work, make any necessary edits, and discuss how best to present their creations in the exhibition. They’ll also write short reflections on what they’ve learned about technology’s role in storytelling and community and preservation.

The outcomes from each workshop will be curated and presented in a final exhibition in SPACE Gallery in January 2026.
