The absolute silence of the vegetation along the banks and the deep prismatic glow almost convinced him that the entire earth had been transformed and that any progress through this crystal world had become pointless.

J.G. Ballard, The Crystal World

The Crystal World opens its doors to the public for an exhibition based around experiments in crystallisation and de-crystallisation of computer minerals.

Our contemporary technological society is founded upon computers that are highly ordered sets of minerals. The Crystal World sets out to stem the flow by reversing the action, and extracting the minerals to build its own systems.

The exhibition follows on from a 5-day intensive public laboratory extracting minerals from computers and re-crystallising them through experiments. The exhibition takes the experiments from the laboratory as base creations, as the starting point for a living experimental exhibition.

The Crystal World is part of a Permacultures residency supported by SPACE, Bloomberg and Arts Council England, London.
