Making SPACE for art in Ilford
SPACE is excited to announce plans to open new artist studios, a gallery and programmes in the London Borough of Redbridge in November 2019. Situated in the rear of Redbridge Town Hall, Ilford, an impressive Grade II listed landmark with a spectacular Art Deco interior, the building will provide artists and creatives with 35 affordable workspaces.
With SPACE programmes relocating to the new premises, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop commissions, young peoples’ programmes, art and technology, artist professional development and training opportunities in Ilford. SPACE envisions an ambitious programme of events and exhibitions, exploring new ways of working between its studio tenants and the wider community.
SPACE Ilford is part of the Mayor of London’s £70 million regeneration plan to turn the town centre into a buzzing, cultural destination. Ilford is 5 minutes by train from Stratford, while the arrival of the Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) in 2020 will connect the town centre to London’s West End in 10 minutes.
Leader of Redbridge Council, Cllr Jas Athwal, says, “We believe that culture will play a major role in the future of Ilford and are delighted to be working with an organisation of SPACE’s experience on this exciting first project.”
SPACE’s CEO, Anna Harding, says, “SPACE is excited to be working with the London Borough of Redbridge to provide affordable workspace and creative programmes in Ilford town centre. We hope this will create new employment and training opportunities for Redbridge residents, as well as contribute to transforming the town centre as a destination.”
Available studio spaces will be advertised on our website.
