An exhibition exploring the shifting presence of grief through ceramics and illustration.

After a profound loss, everything stopped. Even the clocks.

I was pierced by grief. A hollow space appeared inside me, filled with an immeasurable sadness. Something had changed. A part of me was missing, and from that absence another presence emerged: Void.

At first, Void is an uninvited guest, a squatter who slips in and takes up residence. Over time, he becomes a constant presence, changing with the passing days. Bigger or smaller, softer or spiky, he has a way of keeping you guessing. He flickers in and out of sight, only to pop up again. He may become quieter, less visible, but he never truly disappears.

Somewhere along the way, instead of trying to make Void leave, I made room for him.

Kinska gives Void a body, a character, and a place in the world. Moving between ceramic forms, sketches and fragments of text, Void inhabits a surreal landscape where absence becomes tangible and the intangible finds form.

The works trace the shifting contours of grief, offering a room in which loss can be encountered, imagined and held.

‘My Void Friend’ extends beyond the personal. Through a series of workshops, Kinska invited the community to explore their own experiences of loss, creating ceramic shrines as personal homages.

Brought together in the exhibition, the shrines form a collective landscape of individual stories, revealing the many ways love endures in the shape of absence.

Kinska is an East London-based artist with a unique and eye-catching style that travels fluidly through the worlds of ceramics, illustration, and storytelling. Striking and joyful, her work is the result of introspection and personal insights into emotions and feelings, a dip into the soulful world that exists within her mind. With playful and immersive energy, she draws us into a pareidolic universe where everyday objects have a life of their own.

Born in Argentina, she began her creative life as a fashion designer, working in womenswear for several years. In 2009, when she moved to London, she encountered clay.

Discovering ceramics changed her trajectory. The material allowed her to inject vitality into her characters, infusing every piece with her own feelings present at the point of making, and cultivating a distinctive, animated style. She combines her two artistic languages to create a three-dimensional canvas on which to tell her stories, with a particular interest in creating artworks that are also functional objects.

Following her first solo show, “United Kinska”, at Anthropologie King’s Road Gallery, she created “My Opera House”, a large-scale installation at NOW Gallery, and designed ceramic collections for both the V&A Shop and Anthropologie.

Public art installation: “Tell Me Something Nice” for Wander Art – Mayfair and Belgravia Art Trail.
