On square format paintings, Cynthia Girard depicts a world where birds and animals are the main characters of a dark play. On the flat and colourful surfaces animals interact with painted structures and lures.

Cynthia Girard was born in Montreal, Canada. After her bachelor’s in visual arts at University of Quebec at Montreal, she completed a Master’s degree at Goldsmiths College London. She is a visual artist and poet. Her most recent exhibition titled Fictions Sylvestres was presented at the Musée d’art Contemporain, Montréal in winter 2005. This is her first solo show in the UK.

Cynthia Girard is the Canadian artist in residence at Space supported by the Canada Council.
