Join Art + Tech residency artist Josefina Nelimarkka for a workshop and performative lecture Supersaturation + Cloud-Writing: a journey through colour, text and temperature.

The invisible world of air and her research on climate change provide an experimental point of departure for the lecture and interactive installation. Combined with atmospheric sciences, poetics and real-time data technology, the event moves between past, present and future climates.

The workshop will offer possibilities to think through climate and atmospheric phenomena through cloud-writing – a creative approach to text. Throughout the event, the space will be affected by temperature, colour and real-time change of atmosphere in augmented reality (AR). The group will be encouraged to contribute to the text cloud in response to Josefina’s research on climate and the possibilities of time.

Supersaturation + Cloud-Writing is made in collaboration with the paleoclimatologists from Environmental Change Research Centre, the Department of Geography, University College of London. The real-time data from the atmosphere is provided by INAR – Institute of Atmospheric and Earth System Research.

Josefina Nelimarkka is a multidisciplinary artist. By reacting to the transient moments of time and language, arts and sciences merge into fleeting experiences. Continuous processes are activated by weather, real-time data, live performance and interactive technology. Her current research looks into critical and speculative events of climate and the politics of air.

Josefina Nelimarkka is the first Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki alumni artist in residence, a partnership between SPACE Art +Technology, The Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki and the Saastamoinen Foundation.
