Content, Form and Glazes: 3 perspectives on approaching ceramic work by Diana Ambida

Opening: 29 October 6-8pm
Friday 30 and Saturday 31 Oct 1-6pm
Sunday 1 November 1-4pm
Diana Ambida presents work spanning 3 decades in her first solo show at Space Studios Popup gallery.
Seen through the lens of content, form and glazes, she shows us the inspiration behind each piece. The work we encounter is a combination of all three elements but one aspect is the entry point to understanding each piece. The show is a glimpse into her inspirations, observations and creative process in clay.

Artist Bio

Diana is a ceramic artist based in Hackney. She has participated in group shows in Vancouver and Japan.
Her first encounter with clay, in primary school, was significant as it left a deep impression. Many years later, in the late ‘80, while teaching English in Japan, Diana met a ceramicist in Osaka. Working alongside a ceramicist in her studio was a major turning point in Diana’s journey. She would later return to Osaka, to the same studio, many years later, to further her understanding of Japanese ceramic techniques.
After art school in the ‘90, she set up a studio in Vancouver but her growing dissatisfaction with the art scene there pushed her to move to London in 2001. She has had a ceramic practice in London for 19 years and teaches in various institutions.
