The Ilford multiverse!
Come and join us for a fun and engaging creative workshop led by Studio Gil, where you get to dream up any type of building or scenario that you would like to see in Ilford Town Centre. No idea is too bold, wild, large, or small. Imaginative responses are most welcome. How about a pampering boutique hotel for dogs; a dragon training facility; a toy trade and exchange forum? Pragmatic responses are equally welcome, for example a walk-in GP doctor’s surgery; a cooking after-school club for 11-16 year-olds; a clothing upcycling/recycling centre. Build your own unique paper/card model which will be added to a map of the Town Centre to create the Ilford Multiverse!

Studio Gil is an architecture and design practice established in 2009. We blend design sensibility and craft with social agency, working closely with ethnic minority groups and organisations. We listen to the often unheard voices of marginalised communities; translating their stories into architectural propositions. We are passionate about design from the scale of neighbourhood to a child’s toy, approaching all our projects with sensitivity, care and playfulness. We are an energetic team, based at our studio in Ilford, Redbridge, with buildings in the UK and Latin America. Our critically-acclaimed work has been published widely internationally both online and in print. Studio Gil was selected by the Architects Journal AJ100 (2020) as one of 25 ‘Disruptor’ practices, demonstrating an alternative approach to British practice through our socially engaged work.
