SPACE launches new studios: Aspire Point, Stratford, E15
March 2019

SPACE is delighted to announce the launch of 22 new studios at Aspire Point, Jupp Road West in Stratford. These result from a second partnership between SPACE and Alumno who worked together to develop this innovative mixed-use project with a range of community benefits.

The 2012 Olympic Games delivered a legacy of urban regeneration and development across East London, particularly around Stratford in the borough of Newham. In line with this regeneration, Alumno has transformed a derelict petrol station into a high-quality, purpose-built student housing complex with artists studios and a café. The regeneration of the site also provides an opportunity to support the on-going growth of Stratford High Street and the town centre by drawing increased spend into the area.

David Campbell, Managing Director at Alumno: “Alumno have developed some of our very best work alongside SPACE studios. SPACE has become integral in our approach and are very an important partner. SPACE brings much added value in delivery of our schemes and fully appreciates the drive for long-term place making solutions. SPACE provides expert advice and strong support throughout the whole development process, they clearly appreciate the needs and challenges artists and creative practitioners face.

The studios will be run through a long-term agreement with SPACE. Meanwhile, the café will serve both the student residents and the local community, and provide interest and activity to the building at street level. There is also the potential for this space to be used as a gallery for the on-site artists.”

Anna Harding, CEO at SPACE: "We are very happy to be able to offer some high-quality new studios as part of this development. We anticipate this will be a popular studio site and hope it will make a positive contribution to the area."

Since 2006, Alumno have continually worked with universities, colleges and other key stakeholders to provide homes for around 7,000 students in cities such as London, Birmingham and Bristol, despite the challenging economic times and complex legislative environment. Alumno are great supporters of the arts  and will be sponsoring a fundraising event in Soho for the Glasgow International Festival 2018.

Established by artists in 1968, SPACE runs 18 artist studio buildings across 7 London boroughs, providing affordable creative workspace, advocacy, support and promoting innovation. SPACE have recently agreed another site with Alumno in their scheme at Stratford High Street.
