Hervé Constant’s work is a rich mixture developed from a multitude of personal interests and a variety of social and cultural influences that the artist has had to deal with during a career; this has led him from Casablanca, where he was born a French citizen, to London where he currently lives. His most recent works involve video/sound art, as well as photography and artists’ books. In Hand ballet the artist allows free expression to his own hands to illustrate a whole series of gestures, emotions, tensions and aggression, but also sweetness and prayer. At the same time the video evokes the saying “I wash my hands of it”, a refusal to be responsible or face up to certain circumstances as, for example, Pilate with Jesus…
