SPACE’s first out-of-London studios, SPACE Colchester was opened in January 2017 offering 37 creative studios, a workspace facility and cultural venue at 37 Queen Street, Colchester, Essex. Set in Colchester Old Police Station, a listed building in the heart the town’s creative quarter, SPACE Colchester provides the local community with 12,000 sq ft of creative space, workshops, training programmes and showcasing facilities for the creative and digital industries. Located close to Firstsite, The Minories and St Botolph’s Priory with Colchester Town station nearby. In 2018, the building won a RICS Award for Best Regeneration Project in partnership with Colchester Borough Council and Essex County Council.

SPACE’s Creative Practitioner Support Programme is run from the Colchester hub, offering creatives the opportunity to share peer-to-peer feedback in a friendly and informal setting.

NoteYou may notice on our Studio Info and FAQs that in our normal letting of artists’ studios we use a criterion of length of time registered with SPACE. We’re aware that people in Colchester have not had an opportunity to rent with SPACE before, and we are not expecting any Colchester residents to be pre-registered with SPACE. Prior registration with SPACE will not be one of the criteria for allocating the Colchester spaces as we are hoping to attract Colchester area artists to the studios.
If you are allocated a space we will ask you to register at this stage, alongside signing the tenancy agreement.
