Alumno/SPACE Studio Bursary award winner 2019: Jürgen Dance Groomer
The new Alumno/SPACE Studio Bursary has been awarded to recent Goldsmiths BA Fine Art graduate Jürgen Dance Groomer.
As of February 2019, Jürgen will receive 24 hr access to a studio at Havil Street, Camberwell for 12 months. In addition to the studio, Jürgen receives a stipend from Goldsmiths and professional development support from SPACE.
Jürgen Dance Groomer (born Grimsby, 1994) uses humour and uncanny imagery to tackle themes of working-class masculine fragility. He explores his own autobiographical experiences and futures to avoid, creating a world of uncanny characters that provoke a sympathetic and simultaneously repulsive effect.
"The current climate makes it very difficult for emerging artists to succeed. Winning this prize is going to be a fantastic opportunity to explore the different potentials of my work and get my foot in the door to the future I dream of."
