SPACE artist workshops FAQs
Are you an artist in the SPACE community?
We are looking for SPACE artists to deliver creative workshops for all ages at SPACE Ilford from February to December 2025.
Our workshops are planned or themed around upcoming exhibitions at SPACE Ilford gallery and take place once a month on a Saturday from 11am – 3pm. They attract local residents and families, so it is important that both children and adults alike can engage in the workshop.
Commissioned artist exhibitions in 2025 are:
MAIN GALLERY
Djofray Makumbu, January – March
Andy Singleton, March – September
Robert Cervera, September – December
SIDE GALLERY:
If you are an artist who can deliver a STEAM workshop please email Premlata Mistry direct Premlata@spacestudios.org.uk (subject TECH ILFORD workshop). The Tech Ilford session will take place on a Saturday in June, from 11am – 4pm. Please follow the guidelines below and submit a half page proposal if you are interested in supporting this event.

How are the sessions structured?
The session can be divided into two slots (11am – 12.30pm and 1pm – 2.30pm) with a 30 minute break midway and 30 minutes at the end of the session for clearing up. Alternatively the session can be offered on a drop-in basis where attendees can come and go as they wish.
You will have access to SPACE Ilford from 9.30am on the day of the workshop. SPACE staff will be on site to assist and 1 person will be on hand to support the workshop on the day. We recommend you arrive early on the day of the workshop delivery to set up – and then clean away at the end of the day.
How many people can I expect to attend?
We typically receive an average of between 70 – 100 participants (throughout the 4 hour day) for these types of events.
Aims of the workshops
We would ideally like the artist to structure the sessions so they respond to the gallery exhibition in some way. This is not essential but it does help with community engagement if our audience can learn about techniques, skills or themes/ideas used in the exhibition. This helps participants to enhance their knowledge of art and develop creative language.
How much will I be paid?
The fee is £275 on completion of the workshop (this includes planning and delivery).
You will also have £100 for materials costs for which you will be reimbursed on production of receipts.

Please send over a small half page proposal for the activity and email the SPACE team at Premlata@spacestudios.org.uk and cc- daniel@spacestudios.org.uk. (Subject – SPACE ILFORD WORKSHOP 2025)
