DIY Solar Light Hack

Jun 2013

Codasign worked with a group of 15 yr old boys in Bow, Tower Hamlets, to design and make outdoor lanterns by hacking solar cell circuits.

They used conductive thread to extend them, using soldering and adding more LEDs.

The resulting lanterns were hung in the trees in the gardens at the Bromley By Bow Centre, where they formed a temporary installation at a celebration event for Old Ford Housing's community engagement programme which gives year 10 and 11 pupils from local schools the opportunity to study vocational training alongside traditional academic subjects. The event was attended by Labour MP for Tower Hamlets, Jim Fitzpatrick.

The participants will be visiting the White Building in part 2 of the project, where they will meet and talk with artists in their studios.

The project is delivered in partnership with Old Ford Housing and funded by Action for Bow.
