STOP PLAY RECORD

STOP PLAY RECORD was a project led by the Institute of Contemporary Arts in partnership with Chisenhale GalleryDAZEDKingston UniversityNew Contemporaries and SPACE, formed as part of a joint initiative between Arts Council England and Channel 4. STOP PLAY RECORD ran from 2015 to 2018 and supported the development and production of 72 short films with young people aged 16–24 who lived in London, selected from three annual open calls, as well as providing a programme of activity across the capital for anyone interested in filmmaking.

Free monthly filmmaking workshops, talks and masterclasses took place at the ICA and across all STOP PLAY RECORD partner locations, ultimately being attended by over 3,000 young people. These free opportunities offered emerging filmmakers the chance to work closely with industry professionals, focusing on all aspects of film production.

All completed films had the chance to be featured as part of the Channel 4 Random Acts series on TV or online. Of the 72 short films produced, 98% were selected for broadcast on Channel 4 or published on the Random Acts official website

All of the films produced as part of STOP PLAY RECORD featured in the national PLAYBACK exhibition which came to SPACE in July 2017.

SPACE worked with the younger age group (16-18 yrs) and commissioned new work with twelve emerging film makers:

Esther Edusi The Worker
Theodosia Bosy Reaching
Sophie Yuet See Surfacing

Morgan Ellis Jones Fault
Amir Hossain and Soren Harrison A Girl’s Void
