SPACE Artists at Frieze London

SPACE artist Sabrina Tirvengadum and former SPACE exhibitor Djoffery Makumbu will be showcasing their work at Frieze London one of the world’s leading contemporary art fairs this october.

Sabrina Tirvengadum, a Deaf British-Mauritian artist whose exhibition Beauty Fall is currently on display at SPACE Gallery Ilford, will be exhibiting as part of Jhaveri Contemporary’s presentation alongside a group of South Asian and diaspora artists.

Sabrina’s work has attracted increasing attention from curators, institutions, and publications in recent years. Her work has been featured in The Guardian, British Journal of Photography, Art Monthly, Frieze, Financial Times Weekend, How To Spend It, and Foam Magazine, among other leading publications and exhitbions.

Working across photography, collage, archival materials, graphic design, digital painting, film, and generative AI, Tirvengadum’s practice explores identity, memory, visibility, and the ways in which communities reclaim and preserve their histories. Through personal and collective archives, she examines who is remembered, who is erased, and how marginalised narratives can be reimagined and reclaimed.

Former SPACE exhibitor Djoffery Makumbu is an award-winning artist and the recipient of the inaugural Goldsmiths Exhibitions Hub Alumni Commission Award, presented in partnership with the London Community Video Archive (LCVA). At Frieze, he will be presenting his acclaimed work Hello Mister Officer, which combines stop-motion animation, drawing, sculpture, painting, smartphone footage, and personal interviews.

Through this multidisciplinary work, Makumbu connects archival histories with contemporary experiences, exploring themes of Black masculinity, community, surveillance, and resilience.
